It was a whirlwind but NYC was fun! Arrived and met Marcie, my future teammate. Could not be luckier. She has the same sense of humor, nice, friendly, and adventurous. If we have as much fun in Sweden as New York it will be a good time. We stayed in Manhattan in the Midtown East area at a trendy and quaint hotel The Pod and walked all over from there. We saw the city at night Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, NBC Studios, etc. It was fun and I have never been outside of JFK so for me it was great to see anything in the city but I have much more to venture into there. I didn’t see Empire State Building, Central Park, or Statue of Liberty. I didn’t take a cab or ride the Subway. I didn’t have a martini with Carrie Bradshaw. So it left a lot to be desired. The next day we woke up and went to the Swedish Consulate right around the corner to pick up our visas. That was so easy it was hard to believe. We got breakfast and I experienced diva status employees who were the rudest service workers I’ve ever met. She insisted my coffee mug from Starbucks was more than the 16oz that was labeled on the cup. WOW. So she filled a paper 16 oz cup about 2 inches from the top of the cup and transferred it to my cup saying, as if she was proving me wrong, “see it’s much more than 16”. Riiiiiight. Then we walked around and met up with Ruth in Fashion district where she works. She took us to a cafeteria-style lunch with delicious pesto tortellini’s and hummus.
We walked around some more and as we headed back to the hotel we were approached by NBC studios employees. They offered us tickets to sit in on the Jimmy Fallon Late Nite Show. We checked in and then walked out the building to kill time. What we actually walked into was a scene of 30 Rock being filmed. Oops. We were asked to cross the street. As we watched we realized Alec Baldwin was filming, oh Jack. So we watched. Pretty cool process. The real show was going on near by where the same security guard who shooed us away from the scene was posing for camera phone pics while he and the other security guards passed the Emmy around like it was nothing. Taking turns posing and holding. So funny. So not only did we see Alec Baldwin but we saw his Emmy .
We did not see Jimmy Fallon, too long to wait but if it wasn’t for him we would’ve never seen Jack and his Emmy. We instead walked back to the hotel and headed to the airport in Jose’s Mexicali Car service and napped on the way in rush hour traffic on Jose’s plush leather back seat
Then we moved to Sweden…the whole point of the trip to begin with, now the real journey begins!!!
